Update March 31, 2025

Had the Previous Inspection Closed the Bridge to Access?

Absolutely not. Closure was a Council decision. SOTB pointed out that the last GrierGalloway report stated that the bridge was fine for supporting a maintenance team (as referenced below).  You will find this in a PDF document cited below from Town Council meeting Agenda-Council-01-Without Paperclips-09Jan2025-Special.pdf.

What Happened Next?

Council voted on three possible outcomes. Here they are:

Notice nothing says, “Hey, we have a serious engineer and resident here who deserves to be heard as well as over a 1000 petition signatories. Maybe we should agree not to cut him out?”

As taxpayers and residents we think you should question this.

We had long ago shot our drone aerials (above and under) as we didn’t need permission, and we needed to know if we were wasting people’s time. You should question why they thought it was okay to pay GreerGalloway $5,000 to issue a letter that reiterated what they had already put in writing, that “the bridge was safe for an inspection team” (see excerpt above). You should question why on earth with all we knew and the people involved, council would not bend their own silly rule and vote again. We are a historic destination town. We need to preserve what makes sense. We need to not waste tax dollars. Bringing transparency to the Council table and Town Hall was something Mayor Beddows continually raised while campaigning.

Last Word for Now…

Recently, on March 13, SOTB saw an article in the Reporter in which Gan Council reneged on a promise to contribute $75,000 to help buy equipment for OUR Community Hospital in Kingston, in spite of KGH being a frequent ‘go to’ hospitla for Gananoque residents.

Note: Gananoque was the only municipality to renege on its promise. Here is the article:

Please Consider: If SOTB’s proposal to repair the bridge was undertaken, there would have been funds left over from the budget set aside to tear it down, and council could have honoured its original commitment to commit funds of $75,000 this year. But that is another story…

END OF PART ONE.

STAY TUNED. MORE NEXT WEEK ON THE DELEGATION PRESENTATION.
